Threats From Microsoft not Giving Bings Data to Other Search Engines:
According to Bloomberg News, Microsoft has warned some Bing-powered search engines that it will revoke their access to the company’s search index if they continue to use it as the foundation for their AI chat tools.
Microsoft licenses out Bing’s search data to several search engines, including DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, and the AI search engine You.com. While some of these engines pull some of their results from Bing, Microsoft reportedly draws the line at using Bing’s search index as fodder for AI chatbots.

The company believes that using Bing’s data in this way is a violation of its contract and that it may choose to terminate its agreements with the search engines accused of misusing this information.
Microsoft has been consistently enforcing its terms and has already told at least two customers that using its Bing search index to feed their AI chat tools violates the terms of their contract. The company has also said that it may terminate licenses providing access to its search index.
The upgraded Bing search engine was rolled out to users last month after Microsoft integrated a cousin of OpenAI’s AI-powered chat technology into it.
In the midst of a boom in companies introducing their takes on OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, Microsoft likely wants to make its search data exclusive to Bing’s chatbot, which is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4.
Microsoft’s spokesperson said that the company will continue to work with its partners who are out of compliance and will provide any information needed to find a path forward. It remains unclear whether Microsoft has taken action against any search engines.
